Although he still does surprisingly robust traditional album sales, J. Cole has always made his music available across all platforms. Today, however, anyone who uses a streaming service won’t be able to access one of his projects. Cole’s debut album Cole World: The Sideline Story has been mysteriously yanked from all streaming platforms as well as the iTunes and Amazon Digital Music stores. It’s still available in physical formats via retailers like Amazon and Barnes & Noble, but it appears to be unavailable in any digital download or streaming format aside from unofficial YouTube videos.
Currently, the reason for Cole World’s removal is unknown. However, it’s far from the first project to mysteriously vanish. Kanye West’s The College Dropout briefly disappeared from streaming services earlier this year, while the rapper’s Watch the Throne album with JAY-Z has been up and down on Spotify several times. Oftentimes—but not always—these disappearances are resolved within a few days.
Genius reached out to a rep for Spotify and will update this story as more information becomes available.
The Sideline Story Tracklist
Cole World: The Sideline Story was released in 2011 with features from Drake, JAY-Z, Missy Elliott, and Trey Songz. The project spawned Cole’s first hit single “Work Out,” but was criticized for being less lyrically focused than his mixtapes. Cole would later reflect on the project’s mixed reception with 2013’s “Let Nas Down.”
